Student Attendance Policy

Punctuality and Regularity: Keys to Academic Success

Regular attendance and punctuality are vital for academic progress and the development of responsible habits. G. P. S. Roorkee expects all students to attend school regularly and be on time for all classes and school activities. This policy outlines the school's expectations and procedures regarding student attendance.

Importance of Regular Attendance

  • Consistent attendance ensures students do not miss out on valuable instructional time and learning opportunities.
  • It helps students develop a sense of discipline, responsibility, and commitment.
  • Regular presence is crucial for participation in class discussions, group activities, and continuous assessments.
  • It fosters a strong school community and positive peer interactions.

Attendance Requirements

As per CBSE (or relevant board) guidelines, a student is required to have a minimum of 75% attendance of the total working days in an academic year to be eligible to appear for the final examinations and for promotion to the next class.

  • Attendance is recorded daily for each class session.
  • Shortage of attendance below the required percentage may result in the student being debarred from appearing in the final examination.
  • Exemptions for attendance shortage may be considered by the Principal only on genuine medical grounds or for participation in authorized school/sports events, subject to submission of valid supporting documents. Such requests must be made in a timely manner.

Absence Procedures

Parents/guardians are expected to inform the school about their child's absence.

  • Reporting Absence: If a student is absent, parents/guardians should inform the school office or the Class Teacher on the first day of absence, preferably before the start of the school day. This can be done via phone call (Ph: +91-9319641664) or email (gyandeeprke@gmail.com).
  • Leave Application: A written leave application, duly signed by the parent/guardian, must be submitted to the Class Teacher upon the student's return to school, or in advance for planned absences. Refer to the Leave and Absence Policy for detailed procedures.
  • Medical Certificate: For absences exceeding [e.g., 3] consecutive days due to illness, a medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner must accompany the leave application.

Punctuality

  • Students are expected to arrive at school on time, before the first bell.
  • Latecomers must report to the school office/designated authority to obtain a late slip before proceeding to class.
  • Habitual late-coming is a breach of school discipline and will be addressed with parents/guardians. Repeated instances may lead to disciplinary action.
  • Parents are requested to ensure their children leave home with sufficient time to reach school punctually.

Unauthorized Absence & Truancy

Absence from school without prior permission or a valid explanation is considered unauthorized.

  • Persistent unauthorized absence will be viewed seriously.
  • A student who is absent for [e.g., more than ten] consecutive working days without any intimation to the school authorities is liable to have their name struck off the school rolls. Re-admission will be at the discretion of the Principal and subject to school rules.
  • Truancy (deliberately staying away from school without permission) is a serious offense and will result in disciplinary action.

Monitoring and Communication

  • Attendance records are maintained meticulously by Class Teachers and the school office.
  • Parents/guardians will be informed if their child's attendance falls below the expected level or if there are concerns about frequent or unexplained absences.
  • Regular Parent-Teacher Meetings provide an opportunity to discuss attendance and academic progress.

Parental Partnership: We believe that a strong partnership between home and school is essential for ensuring good attendance. We urge parents to actively support the school's attendance policy and encourage their children to attend school regularly and punctually.
